In 1900’s, Torlak family’s grand fathers had interested in building new wooden vessels in the Black Sea shores. Torlak family had founded their first company in 1970 and they continued its activities at Golden Horn/Istanbul until 1983. In 1983, Torlak Shipyard moved to Tuzla Bay, Istanbul, realising additional investments and technological developments. Since the arrival of the floating dock in 2004, capable of receiving vessels up to 42.000 DWT, Torlak Shipyard has also used its expertise to dock and repair of the world's ships.
Torlak Shipyard is nowadays one of the biggest shipbuilding, ship repair and conversion enterprise in Turkey. There are more than 850 employees in the yard with its subcontractors’ workers. Shipyard has one of the biggest floating docks in the region and most of the clients are reputable foreign shipping and management companies. Torlak Shipyard has also constructed and delivered more than 60 new building projects in different types.
In the last decade, importance of working with good practices and high quality standards have considerably increased and shipyard could proudly build or repair the commercial and naval ships at the same quality with the most developed countries of the world.

Torlak Shipyard also aims to minimize and continually reduce the incidence of occupational injuries and illnesses and to integrate safe working practices into all areas of the organization. In respect to these, Torlak Shipyard has been assessed by ABS Quality Evaluations, Inc. and found to be in conformance with the requirements set forth by ISO 9001:2008 and OHSAS 18001:2007.
Torlak would also like to improve the capability to manufacture offshore and specialised vessels. In 2007, shipyard started dealing with the Offshore Vessels and went under contract for building hull of the largest platform supply vessel M/V VIKING LADY that has ever been built and delivered in Turkey. Torlak built LNG-fuelled Platform Supply Vessel Hull, using LNG as fuel, the vessel is developed to meet the highest environmental standards. The hull was successfully delivered to Norway in August 2008. The piping (abt. 270 tonnes) and outfitting works (abt. 200 tonnes) were also done in Torlak Shipyard.

After M/V VIKING LADY, Torlak Shipyard is more focusing the similar vessels as turn-key contract basis and also discussing with some owner parties to reach its aim strictly.
In 2007, a new company “Torlak Shipping” also started operating under the roof of Torlak Group. With this company, Torlak aims at becoming a global conglomerate in line with its strategic objectives and Torlak Shipping fully suited the Group’s principles adopted to reach its new strategic plan targets in Shipping Industry. Torlak’s new target defined as “built and operate the vessels at the same roof” and the target is getting succeeded with the shipbuilding investments and Torlak Shipping Company. Torlak Shipping’s first vessel M/T ASC (5707 DWT, Marineline Coated, CHT, ICE IC, High scoped) was delivered to Torlak Shipping in February 2008 and now under spot chartering. Other four units of Chemical Tankers (2 units of 7700 DWT and 2 units of 10500 DWT) are still under construction or project phase. After these vessels, Torlak will focus on four units of 8600 DWT Chemical Tankers. Machineries and equipments of these vessels were agreed with European Suppliers. Nowadays, Torlak Shipping’s second newbuilding vessel M/T HAVVA ANA (7.668 DWT IMO II, OIL PRODUCT / CHEMICAL TANKER, ICE IA) was also delivered to the shipping company and third vessel M/T AZIZ TORLAK is waiting for the launching. As ship operators, Torlak is taking role to be active in deep sea tanker for transportation of high value liquid of chemicals and giving competitive service to its customers.
After the shipyard has turned its direction to build shipyard owned vessels, Torlak is now more flexible in shipyard orderbook and programme. Therefore, Torlak is capable to arrange its slipways for early deliveries in hull and turnkey projects, even may start today.
